Positano Italy. Founded by the Romans in the sec. IV D. C., was diocese and Byzantine castrum after the victory of Narsete on the Goths (553). In vain A. tried in 1088, in 1095 and in 1127 to escape to the Norman influence: Roger II in 1131 subdued her/it respecting however the merchant privileges and the institutional forms. Ransacked in 1135 by the Pisanis and reconstructed by the Norman ones, A., in 1398, when the republican arrangement had already been dejected, it became feud of the Sanseverinos.
